Cyber actors are using this opportunity to prey on people’s fears concerning Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Please caution your users to be extra alert to Phishing scams posing as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), schools, news outlets, charities, state, county and other government agencies providing links concerning local outbreaks, quarantines, closures and similar alarming news.

The uneasiness we all feel makes us much more susceptible to social engineering attempts to get us to click before we think.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) warns individuals to remain vigilant for scams related to COVID-19. Cyber actors may send emails with malicious attachments or links to fraudulent websites to trick victims into revealing sensitive information or donating to fraudulent charities or causes. Exercise caution in handling any email with a COVID-19-related subject line, attachment, or hyperlink, and be wary of social media pleas, texts, or calls related to COVID-19.
