iManage users who are attempting to open documents in iManage Work Web on the latest version of Google Chrome (142 or later) or Microsoft Edge (143 or later) will encounter a new security prompt when accessing cloudimanage.com.
Chrome and Edge now prompt users to either ALLOW or BLOCK local network access for iManage. Choosing BLOCK will disable iManage features in both Chrome and Edge browsers, potentially disrupting daily legal operations and document management workflows. To prevent operational disruptions and ensure continuity, you can apply this update manually below or proactively deploy it to all PCs via a registry key:
The key is:
Google Chrome
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome\LocalNetworkAccessAllowedForUrls
String name: 1 (or next available number)
String Value: [*.]cloudimanage.com
Microsoft Edge
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge\LocalNetworkAccessAllowedForUrls
String name: 1 (or next available number)
String Value: [*.]cloudimanage.com
The manual, temporary solution for resetting Local Network Access permissions for users who've already chosen Block:
If a user has already chosen Block from the prompt to prevent Local Network Access in Chrome for iManage Work Web, you have to:
Why Chrome Introduced ‘Allow Local Network Access
Google added this permission to protect users from cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks and exploitation, where malicious sites could access local routers or devices. It also prevents websites from fingerprinting local networks by probing IP ranges. Earlier, Chrome used a stricter measure called Private Network Access (PNA), which led to compatibility issues. The new Local Network Access (LNA) model provides a more user-centric, flexible approach, balancing security with operational needs for services like iManage.
By staying ahead of these changes and leveraging managed desktop solutions or policy automation, IT teams can ensure both security and productivity across the organization.
